Imran promptly accepts invitation, promises a new relationship

Islamabad.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has telephoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and congratulated him on his party’s victory in the general elections. Ghani on Sunday also invited Imran Khan, who is set to become the Prime Minister of Pakistan, to visit Kabul, a spokesperson for Khan said. The cricketer-turned-politician has accepted the invitation.

Ghani congratulated Khan over the victory of his Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) party in the parliamentary elections of July 25.

Spokesman Naeem ul Haq told reporters that the PTI leader had agreed to visit Afghanistan after he assumes office.

Haq had earlier said that Khan will take oath as Prime Minister before August 14.

In the telephonic conversation, the both leaders discussed Pak-Afghan relations and agreed to ‘overcome the past and to lay a new foundation for a prosperous political, social and economic future of both countries’.
