Water Resource Department is gearing up to inaugurate-lay foundation of 72 irrigation projects worth nearly Rs 1400 crore in Chhattisgarh in next two months.
Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh has been invited for inauguration and foundation laying of these projects. Water Resource Department Secretary Mr. Sonmoni Borah met Dr Singh at his residence office today and presented him the Water Digest Award, conferred upon the department in New Delhi recently.
Chief Minister congratulated Water Resource Minister Mr. Brijmohan Agrawal, Chief Secretary Mr. Ajay Singh and Department Secretary Mr. Sonmoni Borah along with all the department officials-employees for bagging this important national award.
Mr. Borah informed that as per the vision of Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh and on instructions of Water Resource Minister Mr. Brijmohan Agrawal, Water Resource Department has decided to give top-priority to irrigation and water management through extensive public participation.
Under the special campaign launched by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi to double the income of farmers, micro irrigation schemes are being focused upon in Chhattisgarh, so that the policy of each drop more crop could be materialized in order to boost agriculture production further.
With this objective, Water Resource Department has started preparing for inauguration-foundation laying of 72 small irrigation prokects worth more than Rs 1400 crore. Mr. Borah invited Chief Minister as Chief Guest for foundation laying and inauguration of these projects.
Mr. Borah informed that preparations for inauguration of 29 projects worth Rs 928 crore 46 lakh and foundation laying of 43 projects worth nearly Rs 491 crore 66 lakh is in progress. This includes projects related to stop dam, anicut, new ponds, barrage, flood control etc. Chief Minister was pleased to know about State Government’s Water Resource Department’s achievement of having received the prestigious Water Digest Award.
It is noteworthy that Water Resource Department received this national award in New Delhi in a programme held on the occasion of World Water Day, at hands of Mr. Arjun Ram Meghwal. Mr. Borah received this award on behalf of the department.>
