India bats for negotiations between Israel, Palestine; heres why it was issued
In a message marking the International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian people, India on Tuesday reiterated the need for an early resumption of negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians.
The solidarity is observed internationally on November 29 and Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid out his government’s position.
He also said that India will continue to support nation-building activities by the Palestinians, and urged for the creation of a Palestinian State that will co-exist “peacefully” with Israel.
The special day marks Resolution 181 of the United Nations which called for the creation of independent Israeli and Palestinian States and was adopted on this day in 1947. The two-state solution of the Israel-Palestinians dispute is based on this resolution.
The International Day for Solidarity with the Palestinian People of 2017 is being marked in the backdrop of the ongoing diplomacy to bring the two sides to the negotiation table. >
