India hands over four Pakistani prisoners; secures 370 fishermen from neighbouring country
As part of prisoner exchange program, India on Friday repatriated four Pakistani prisoners.
Officials informed that these prisoners had completed their jail sentence and their nationalities were confirmed by Pakistan authorities.
They were handed over to Pakistani authorities at the Attari-Wagah border.
Terming it to be a humanitarian issue, India also received fishermen that had been arrested by Pakistani authorities.
Indian sources said that they have secured release of 370 Indian prisoners, including 363 fishermen, in 2017.
The release of the Pakistani prisoners comes ahead of the visit of the mother and wife of Kulbhushan Jadhav, the Indian national sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court on alleged charges of espionage, to Pakistan.
Pakistan has issued visas to Jadhav’s mother and wife to meet him in a Pakistani prison on 25 December. >
