India reaches out to China; to drop its objections to membership of NSG

It is not yet clear whether there is any breakthrough so far

India has intensified its bid to gain entry into the Nuclear Suppliers Group and is hopeful because of the entry into other such multilateral arrangements.

India on its part also reached out to China and tried to convince the interlocutors in Beijing to lift their objections at the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG).

It is said that Joint Secretary (Disarmament and International Security) Pankaj Sharma met Beijing’s top interlocutor Wang Xun.

Xun is known to head the disarmament division in the Chinese government.

It is not yet clear whether there is any breakthrough so far.

Sources in the Indian administration told that the two sides engaged in fruitful talks held consultations on important issues.

It need be recalled that the NSG is the top club of countries which controls access to technology and guards against proliferation.

Its membership is important for India to access cutting-edge high technology.
