Indian American lawmakers oppose ending of H-4 visa program

With the decision of Trump Administration to end work permits of spouses of H-1B visa holders, the Indian-American Democratic lawmakers have come out in opposition.

It need be mentioned that the Trump administration is planning to propose to end allowing spouses of H1-B visa holders to work legally in the US.

However, there are already assessments that the move may well have a devastating impact on tens of thousands of Indians.

To this Indian-American Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal said that H-4 visas go to women who are just as qualified or may be more and not letting them work would not do any good.

She was speaking at an event at the US Capitol organized by the US India Friendship Council.

This is a gender issue as well, she emphasized, referring to the fact that a significantly large number of beneficiaries H-4 work permits are women.

During the conference yesterday, she was joined by several other Democratic Congressmen – Joe Crowley, Ami Bera and Raja Krishnamoorthi — on H-1B and H4 visas.
