Indian student goes missing in Germany

BAGALKOTE: A 28-year-old engineering graduate Simikeri village of Bagalkot in Karnataka, who went to Hamburg University in Germany for higher studies, has been missing for the last three days, his family said.
Manjunath Siddanna Churi, the student, after graduating from Basaveshwara College of Engineering in Bagalkot, went to Germany for Master of Software almost two years ago. And he was to return to this September.
Meanwhile, the German police claimed that they found a letter from Manjunath’s room, but they “couldn’t read since it was written in an Indian language”.
“He would call up his mother twice a day over phone from Germany. He last spoke to her on Saturday afternoon and since then we have not heard from him. She received a call from Hamburg Indian embassy on Monday night around 10 pm and was informed about her son’s disappearance,” a family member said.
Apparently, Anil Deshpande, a friend of Manjunath, informed authorities who passed the message to the local police and Indian embassy

Manjunath lost his father in a road accident in 2016 and is survived by his mother and two sisters.

Bagalkote’s MP PP Gaddigowder said that he is in touch with foreign diplomats and also promised to bring the issue into the notice of Foreign minister Sushma Swaraj.
