India’s fireworks capital Sivakasi heading for closure; heres about the situation
The well fireworks brand of India, Sivakasi, is facing closure as country is battling the toxic air problem at humongous proportions.
The town, earlier used to be renowned for its manufacturing activities, produces 85 per cent of the country’s firecrackers and an eight lakh make livelihood from this industry.
Speaking on this issue, Tamil Nadu Fireworks and Amorces Manufacturers Association (TANFAMA) said no dealer is paying advances after a petition was filed in the Supreme Court seeking a countrywide ban on firecrackers sale.
This has struck a major blow to the industry that depends on advance payments for working capital.
It may be known that many of the dealers in Delhi NCR, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh had suffered major losses due to the pre-Diwali ban on cracker sale. >
