Chief Electoral Officer Shri V.L. Kanta Rao has informed that according to the order of the Election Commission of India, eight political parties (Indian National Congress, Bahujab Samaj Party, Communist Party of India, SAPAKS Party, Jaiprakash Janta Dal, Kranti Janshakti Party, Bharti Jansampark Party, Bhartiya Janta Party and Bhartiya Jan Morcha) have provided details of criminal cases of total 124 candidates to the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer.
All the information has already been sent to the Election Commission on January 20, 2019.
According to the order of the Supreme Court, directives were issued by the Election Commission of India for publication/broadcast of information of criminal cases of the last 10 years of candidates in local news papers and news channels in three different dates.
The publication/ broadcast was supposed to be made by the concerned candidates in prescribed format C-1 and by all the political parties in C-2 format before two days from the date of voting from the last date of name withdrawal.
The above mentioned information was also supposed to be uploaded by the political parties on their websites.
Moreover, information in connection to publication/broadcast was also supposed to be given by all the candidates within 30 days after the end of the election to the concerned district election officer in Format C-4 and by the political parties to the Chief Electoral Officer in Format C-5.
