Kings XI Punjab picked up their first loss of the latest Indian Premier League season as they were defeated by a strong Royal Challengers Bangalore side on Friday.
The match featured a number of talking points but perhaps the one that stood out the most was the unique record that was set by KXIP’s Aussie import Aaron Finch, who recorded a memorable first as he was named in the starting lineup by his franchise.
Finch became the first player in the history of the IPL to have appeared for seven different teams over the course of the competition, with the Punjab side being the latest in his list of employers.
The Aussie batsman made his IPL debut all the way back in 2010 with the Rajasthan Royals and since then, he has played for Delhi Daredevils, Pune Warriors India, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Lions.
The 31-year-old is widely considered to be one of the world’s finest players in the shortest format of the game and has played 36 T20 internationals for Australia, where he has a scarcely believable highest score of 156, which came against England in Southampton in 2013.
In the IPL, he has a total of 66 matches to his name and over the years, he has built a formidable reputation for himself in the tournament.
He has a strike rate of 130, averages 27.18 and has 13 half-centuries to his name in the competition with a highest score of 88 not out.
Friday’s match against RCB was his side’s second of the competition and the Australian did not feature in Punjab’s opening game due to his wedding, which took place earlier this week in Victoria.
He is expected to take the field in his side’s next match against the Chennai Super Kings, which is scheduled to be held on Sunday.>
