A day after rumours on underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and his wife’s admission in hospital for being tested COVID-19 positive surfaced, reports of his death are now making rounds in a section of Indian media.
Today,a news channel quoting sources tweeted,“Dawood Ibrahim dies of COVID-19 in Karachi.”
Dawood’s brother Anees Ibrahim responded to the rumours of the former being tested COVID-19 positive and said neither Dawood nor any other member in the family has contracted the infection and they are all safe. Nevertheless, many national media houses today flashed the news of the underworld Don’s death due to Coronavirus. However,no official confirmation has been received yet.
Meanwhile, another report suggests that Dawood Ibrahim has joined hands with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and is planning to carry out another attack similar to the 26/11 Mumbai terror strike. The report claims that the two are planning to send weapons to Gujarat and Maharashtra via sea route and looking at the Coronavirus crisis as an opportunity to target Indian cities.
According to the US,Dawood maintains close links with terror outfit Al-Qaeda.As a result, the US declared him a “Global Terrorist” and pursued the matter before the United Nations in an attempt to freeze his assets across the world and crack down on his operations.
Dawood’s aide Moti faces extradition to the US on charges of money laundering, extortion and conspiracy to import unlawful substances such as heroine.
