Is it terror attack ??; Car rams people in busy Melbourne street; heres more
In what appears to be another terror attack just ahead of Christmas celebrations, two men were arrested after the car in which they were travelling crashed into pedestrians on a busy Melbourne street Thursday.
The local media reports indicate that at least 19 people may have been injured in the episode.
The motive of the incident was not clear immediately. But media reports said that police arrested the driver of the white Suzuki SUV that plowed into the crowd. Another man who was in the vehicle with him was also arrested.
It was also informed that the driver was of Middle Eastern appearance and that he was wrestled to the ground and handcuffed after his vehicle crashed into a bollard by a cable car stop around 4 p.m. to 4.40 p.m.
While 13 people have been taken to hospitals, a pre-school aged child is said to be in serious condition with head injuries.
Witnesses told media channels that car jumped a red light, speeded up and struck pedestrians on Flinders Street in the Melbourne central business district.
The area was busy with Christmas shoppers at the time of the incident.>
