Jammu and Kashmir: Polling underway for fifth phase of DDC elections

Voting is taking place for 37 seats in this phase. Our Jammu correspondent reports that 9.46 per cent voting recorded till 9 AM.

Jammu and Kashmir Polling is underway for the fifth phase of District Development Council (DDC) elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Polling, which began at 7 this morning, will end at 2 PM. Voting is taking place for 37 seats in this phase. Our Jammu correspondent reports that 9.46 per cent voting recorded till 9 AM.

Out of 37 constituencies, 17 are in Kashmir division and 20 in Jammu division. 155 candidates including 30 women are in the fray for 17 seats in Kashmir division. In Jammu division, 144 candidates including 40 women are in the fray for 20 seats.

Bypolls for 58 vacant seats of Sarpanch and 218 Panchs are also taking place today. In view of the Corona pandemic, adequate arrangements have been put in place to ensure safety of all stake holders including voters.
