Journos condemn Guv’s ‘pat on cheek’ for lady reporter; in Tamil Nadu

journalists have demanded an unconditional apology from the Governor to the journalist in question

Journalists in Tamil Nadu have written to Governor Banwarilal Purohit condemning him for patting a female journalist on her cheek.

Terming it an act of harassment, they have alleged it to be a patronizing behavior.

This was in response to Governor Purohit patting the cheek of lady reporter as she went on to ask him a question.

The journalists have demanded an unconditional apology from the Governor to the journalist in question.

They have also asked for an assurance that he will not violate the rights of journalists in the future.

Many of the journos opined that the lady reporter was there at the press meet in professional capacity and simply discharging her duty as a journalist.

It need be mentioned that the woman journalist in question works for an English magazine and she had tweeted about the incident saying Purohit decided to “patronisingly”, and without consent, pat me on the cheek in response to a question.

She added, “Washed my face several times. Still not able to get rid of it. So agitated and angered Mr Governor Banwarilal Purohit. It might be an act of appreciation by you and grandfatherly attitude. But to me you are wrong.”

The Chennai Press Club has demanded Purohit apologize to the journalist as well.

The incident has also invited criticism from the opposition DMK.
