Justice Chelameswar had this to say on upper judiciary, Supreme Court

Justice Jasti Chelameswar, who was one of the judges who addressed that dramatic press conference on issues of the Supreme Court, said that institutions need to be constantly analyzed for its functioning.

He was speaking at the launch of the book Supreme Court of India — The beginnings and noted that an impartial judiciary is a must for a liberal democracy to function well.

Justice Madan B Lokur, who was also present along with Justice Chelameswar at the press conference on January 12, was a part of the audience.

Interestingly, Justice Chelameswar said that Supreme Court of India is not a superintending court over the entire judiciary of this country.

He said that in practice however, the Supreme Court exercises a great deal of superintendence. Directly, the matter of appointment and transfer of judges of the high courts.
