Even as speculations are rife that opposition parties are attempting to impeach the Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, the Justice J Chelameswar opined that impeachment cannot be an answer to every question.
He said that what is required is to correct the system.
Justice Chelameswar is the senior-most judge after the CJI.
In a January 12 press conference that he held along with justices Ranjan Gogoi, M B Lokur and Kurian Joseph, the four judges revealed their concern as their deliberations with the CJI did not achieve the desired results on the issues raised by them.
They expressed their concern on the functioning of the apex court.
He replied in affirmative when asked whether the power of setting up of benches and allocation of cases should be exercised arbitrarily.
It need be recalled that so far no CJI has ever faced impeachment in the country.
Justice Chelameswar also said that he hoped that Justice Gogoi will become the next Chief Justice of India.>
