Kasganj police nabs main accused Salim ; on lookout for his brothers as well
Under pressure to crack the case, police in the Uttar Pradesh’s tense Kasganj district today arrested Salim and termed him to be one of the main accused who allegedly fired on Chandan Gupta during the communal clashes on the Republic Day last week.
Kasganj police said Salim’s brothers Wasim and Nasim have also been named as the main accused in the killing of the 22-year-old Gupta.
All of the three brothers have been booked under Section 302 of the IPC.
Police said that a total of three persons have been arrested in the Chandan Gupta murder case even as the FIR names 20 people.
Chandan Gupta was killed in clashes following stone-pelting by a mob on a motorcycle rally taken out by members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the RSS-backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Republic Day.
A video has also emerged showing Gupta participating in what the VHP and ABVP called a “Tiranga Yatra”. He is seen riding one of the motorcycles with two others, as men with tricolour and saffron flags drove through Kasganj.
