With the BJP leader’s statement on journalists infuriating the Kashmir polity, the Peoples Democratic Party urged Governor NN Vohra to immediately book and arrest former minister.
This comes after the BJP leader Choudhary Lal Singh made remark against Kashmiri journalists.
The statement was seen as threat to the journos by many in the valley.
The state unit of the Congress too has condemned the former minister’s remarks warning Kashmiri journalists to draw a line between reporting facts and supporting terrorists or face the fate of Rising Kashmir editor Shujaat Bukhari.
Bukhari, it need be mentioned, was shot dead by militants.
BJP’s former ally PDP’s leaders said termed it highly unfortunate that ‘elements like him’ are allowed to roam freely.
Shujaat Bukhari’s brother Basharat Bukhari is a PDP leader and was the law minister in the PDP-BJP government, of which Singh had been a part, before the BJP withdrew from the alliance last week.
The PDP leader said Singh through one way or the other has been in the forefront to “create a communal rift” in the state between the Hindus and Muslims and now has launched an offensive against the most important pillar of the democracy.>
