Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has announced declaring nine districts as drought affected in view of poor monsoon and water shortage.
The districts identified are Alappuzha, Kannur, Idukki, Kasargod, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Palakkad, Thrissur and Wayanad.
The Chief Minister chaired a meeting of the State Disaster Management and the authority issued necessary directives to the State Relief Commissioner to make the official declaration in this regard.
Among the parameters that have been included to declare the districts as drought hit include lack of monsoon, non-availability of surface and ground water and salt water in the region.
It was informed that the water kiosks will be filled with water from tankers.
