Latest trends coming in from the crucia by-polls that would test the relevance of a united opposition ahead of 2019 national polls suggest that joint opposition backed candidate is leading in Kairana.
The BJP is trailing in Lok Sabha bypolls held in Kairana and Bhandara-Gondiya.
Both of the parliamentary constituencies are located in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra respectively.
But trends also showed the BJP and its alliance partner — the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) — in front in two other parliamentary bypolls.
In Kairana, the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) was leading the BJP by a huge margin.
The candidate is also backed by the Samajwadi Party and the Congress.
The RLD candidate has so far 2,09,938 votes while the saffron party had 1,78,948.
Similarly, the Bhandara-Gondiya seat is also where the Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) had a comfortable lead over the BJP.
The candidate has so far had 51,219 votes with the second candidate having 48,382 votes.
In the Maharashtra constituency of Palghar however, the BJP was ahead with 1,55,608 votes while the Shiv Sena was in second position with 1,36,552.>
