In yet another significant recommendation, the Law Commission of India on Wednesday recommended that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) be brought under the purview of the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
This has been covered in a 128-page report where in the commission cites several reasons for this recommendation.
The recommendation also includes that the BCCI needs to be classified as ‘State.’
As per the report, the commission explained that the BCCI can be considered public authority even if it is considered a private organisation.
This is owing to its monopolistic character coupled with the public nature of its functions and the substantial financing it has received from appropriate Governments over the years, the report said.
The Law Commission report also added that the other factors including the national tricolour and the Ashoka Chakra on official cricket gear also needs to be considered.>
