Sudden heavy downpour threw life out of gear in Hyderabad

Sudden heavy downpour threw life out of gear in Hyderabad just as easily as it did in any other major city of the country. Three people were killed after heavy rains hit Hyderabad on Monday and flooded many low-lying areas. Heavy rainfall led to waterlogged streets and traffic jams. Two persons, including a child, were killed and two injured in a wall collapse in Singadikunta area in Banjara Hills. One person died of electrocution in Hussaini Alam in the old city. Meanwhile, according to a report by the IANS, a cloudburst happened over the city as some areas recorded 7-12 cm of rainfall. Officials have advised the people to step out of the house after checking the updates of the Met department. The heavy rains led to power outage in many areas as electricity cables were snapped due to the downpour. Drains were overflowing in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The technology hub of Cyberabad and many outsjirt areas were also affected by the rains.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) had sent out its emergency teams to clear out the water logged streets. Waterlogging led to long traffic jams in areas of Madhapur. GHMC Commissioner Janardhan Reddy said people should not come out of their houses unless it is an emergency. Meanwhile, CM KA Chandrasekhar Rao has directed the authorities to remain on high alert and asked them to carry out rescue operations in areas inundated by floods.
