Imtiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal featuring Sara Ali Khan and Kartik Aaryan has failed to perform at the box office. In a few days, the film will completely bomb at the ticket windows. Everyone had high expectations from Sara and Kartik’s film, but due to a weak script and shallow performances, the film clearly went downhill.
Love Aaj Kal was off to a great start with a collection of Rs. 12.40 crore on day 1, followed by Rs. 8.01 crore on day 2. However, on Sunday, Sara and Kartik’s romantic drama witnessed a dip. According to the early estimates, Love Aaj Kal merely earned Rs. 6.50 crore yesterday. As compared to Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone’s Love Aaj Kal (2009), this version has disappointed us big time.
Earlier, in an interview with Mid-Day, Sara Ali Khan had opened up on comparisons and said, “I respect every opinion that comes my way. But I hope people don’t compare it with the 2009 film. We are in the movies and ready to take risks. I am not here to please the whole world. So, I go with what feels right to me. I said yes to the film without reading the script. I had asked Imtiaz sir why we weren’t calling it Love Aaj Kal 2; he explained that the concept is relevant and timeless. The idea is that love means different things for different generations.”
Meanwhile, our critic gave 1.5 stars to Love Aaj Kal and wrote, “Imtiaz Ali tries doing a Sigmund Freud or Carl Jung on love and relationship, but all he ends up being is a paltry government-sanctioned student counselor, with an online degree, who’s masquerading as a pseudo-psychologlist, without the first clue in the world of what he’s taking about or getting at.”
