In yet another step that is aimed at improving the law and order and curbing the criminal activities in public transport system, the Maharashtra government has brought into effect a notification of year 2016.
The buses and cars thus would need to have VTS and panic button as part of intelligent transport system (ITS).
The system would allow the authorities to track the location, speed and other details of the vehicles with a single click.
The cost of the installation of the system is anywhere between Rs 10,000 – 12,000.
There is also the cost of monthly fees to the tune of Rs 100-400.
It is said that the RTO officers in the state are refusing to register new vehicles without the installed and functional ITS system.
It is also said that around 3.70 lakh existing vehicles will have to install the system.>
