In a major accident that claimed at least 18 people, it is now known that another 15 were injured in the mishap that took place on Pune-Satara Highway on Tuesday morning.
It is said that the accident took place at around 4:30 am near Khambatki ghat section on Mumbai- Bangalore highway in Satara district.
The local police is said to have learnt that the a tempo carrying around 35 workers toppled after hitting a barricade.
The workers had been coming in from Karnataka and were headed for a construction site in Pune.
It is also said that four women and a child were also amongst the dead.
More than three dozen workers were traveling in the truck at the time of the accident and police suspects that being the wee hours, the driver too may have dozed off.
The injured persons have been shifted to Satara’s civil hospital and some of them are in critical condition.
