Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at Raj Bhavan in Kolkata on Saturday amidst the ongoing protests across the city against the amended Citizenship Act.
Mamata Banerjee told PM Modi that people in Bengal are against CAA, NPR and NRC and that CAA and NRC should be withdrawn.
PM Modi arrived in Kolkata on a two day-visit and is scheduled to attend the function marking the 150th anniversary of Kolkata Port Trust on January 12.
“I told the PM that people in Bengal are not accepting NRC (National Register of Citizens) and CAA. You should reconsider it. He has said I am here for other programmes so he asked me to come to Delhi for meeting,”.
Soon after meeting PM Narendra Modi,CM Mamata Banerjee attended a TMC students wing sit-in demonstration in the city against CAA.
Clarifying her stand on meeting PM Narendra Modi to agitating students,the Bengal CM said it was her ‘constitutional obligation’.”I am the only leader who met Narendra Modi and told him that CAA, NRC and NPR cannot be implemented”,Mamata told agitating students.
