Man duped of Rs 39996 on pretext of failed Paytm KYC

Raipur: In yet another novel way of online cheating, a man of Lily Chowk has been duped of Rs 39996 on pretext of failed Paytm KYC. A complaint in this regard was later lodged in Purani Basti police station. According to police, complainant Chaitanya Kumar Thakur on Tuesday afternoon received a SMS on his mobile phone that his Paytm KYC norms has failed and he needs to contact the sent telephone number for further assistance.

Not suspecting the received SMS at all, Thakur called over the given telephone upon which the receiver told him that he needs to download the “Quick Support App” and allow access to his mobile phone for activating the Paytm account. Still not suspecting any foul play, Thakur downloaded the said app and allowed access of his mobile phone to that app.

This turned out to be great mistake as the online fraud instantly got access to all his bank details and within minute siphoned Rs 39996 from his bank account in four separate installments. Thakur then immediately called back at the telephone number he had talked minutes before but now it was found to be out of service. Purani Basti police, meanwhile, have registered an offence under Section 420 IPC against the holder of mobile phone number 70291-54848 and is now investigating the matter further.
