Manipur Minister found goats instead of students in school; while on surprise inspection
On surprise inspection, the Manipur Education Minister T. Radheshyam was taken aback on Saturday when he found goats occupying two empty classrooms of a school in Khelakhong of the state.
This was because there were no students in the classroom even though the school authorities had claimed a number of students.
He had to admit that it was on the basis of false claims, mid-day meals, books, and school uniforms were being taken on a regular basis from the government.
The Minister made surprise visits to some schools under Mayang Imphal and Wabagai assembly constituencies on Saturday.
He confessed that it was embarrassing indeed that students were not present in some schools and the school buildings are in bad shape.
He promised taking disciplinary action against errant teachers and other responsible staffers.
The local residents told the Minister that about five years ago, there were nearly 200 students in the school at Khelakhong.
Similarly, another school claimed that there were 32 students.
However, the Minister found that there were just two students.>
