Manush-Ishaan pair bag two medals; Manush wins bronze in Junior Boys event

Gandhidham : It was a memorable outing for Baroda-based Manush Shah on the last day of the 79th Inter-State and National Table Tennis Championships at Durgapur. The paddler bagged three medals in the non-team events on Tuesday, including one Silver in Youth Boys doubles with Ishaan Hingorani of Kutch.

Manush and Ishaan also bagged bronze in Junior Boys doubles.

Manush-Ishaan pair faced Manav Thakkar and Siddesh Pande of PSPB in the Youth Boys final. The Gujarat pair gave a good fight but went down 2-11 8-11 7-11.

Manush faced state mate, now a PSPB player Manav in the Junior Boys Semifinals. Manush went down 7-11 5-11 8-11 1-11 and had to satisfy with bronze.

Second bronze of the day for Manush was with doubles partner Ishaan in Junior Boys section. They were overpowered by Md Ali and Fidel Rafeeque S of Telangana 4-11 7-11 5-11.

Earlier the Gujarat Junior Boys team claimed Silver Medal while Youth Boys Team claimed Bronze Medal.

In all Gujarat won two Silver and three Bronze medals during the six-day event in West Bengal.

Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Vijay Rupani Tweeted on his twitter “Congratulations to team Gujarat on winning 2 Silver & 3 Bronze medals at the 11Sports 79th Junior and Youth National & Inter-State Table Tennis Championship held at Durgapur. The continued success in sports will encourage and help in creating sporting culture in the state”.

“Congratulations to Manush and Ishaan for their medal-winning performance. Coaches should also get credit for the hard work they have put in at Durgapur and Pre-National camp held in Ahmedabad,” said Vipul Mittra, IAS, president of Gujarat State Table Tennis Association.

With Ishaan and Manush set to join the men’s team at senior Championships in Ranchi later this week GSTTA is hopeful of more medals.

“This is a fantastic performance by boys. They have raised their game and our expectations. We are very much hopeful in the senior Championships at Ranchi,” said Milind Torawane, IAS, Chairman GSTTA.
