Gandhidham : Surat-based Manav came up with some worthy performances in 2017. Impressively Manav won the ITTF Junior Boys’ Singles titles in India and Slovenia, ending the year in top spot on the Standings. He is now World No.2 in Junior Rankings.
Manav and Manush, both are SAG’s Shaktidoot scheme beneficiaries.
In the last year’s edition, World Junior Circuit Finals, Manav had reached the quarter-final round of the Boys’ Singles event. In the group stage, he had experienced defeat at the hands of Slovenia’s Darko Jorgic but had recorded wins in opposition to Australia’s Rohan Dhooria and Victor Liu of the United States.
Meanwhile, at the 79th Junior and Youth Inter-State and National Championships at Durgapur (West Bengal) earlier this month, Manav bagged five gold medals and one silver. At the senior meet in Ranchi, Manav, who represent PSPB, earned bronze.
On the other hand, Manush reached the semi-final stage of the ITTF Junior Boys’ Singles events in India and Serbia. He finished the year in 12th place on the ITTF World Junior Circuit Boys’ Standings. The Sports Authority of Gujarat’s Shaktidoot Scheme player Manush was part of all five; two silver and three bronze medals Gujarat won at Durgapur meet.
Vadodara-based Manush was instrumental in Gujarat silver and bronze medals in the team events. Along with Ishaan Hingorani, he bagged silver (in Youth) and bronze (in Junior) in the boys’ doubles events. The left-handed paddler also won bronze for himself in the junior boys’ singles in West Bengal.
On selection of Manav Thakkar and Manush Shah Vipul Mittra, IAS President of Gujarat State Table Tennis Association has congratulated both the players and said “This is great achievement. Both the players deserve it. They are in great form, and that was visible at Durgapur. I am confident of his performance in India colours at Luxembourg”.>
