Minister for Cooperatives Dr. Govind Singh has said that the state government has followed the manifesto by fulfilling the promise made to the farmers of crop loan waiver.
He further mentioned that in order to give relief to the farmers, high breed seeds will be supplied on large scale for their economic prosperity. In this regard the esteemed institutions like State Cooperative Seed Producer and Marketing Federation will be made more active.
Dr. Govind Singh was addressing the one day workshop on‘Strategy to Double Farmers’ Income’at Cooperative Management Institute here today.
The Minister further stated that the farmers who are leading their entire life under the burden of debt in compulsion will be rescued. Loan waiver is a meaningful step in this connection.
The next step is their economic prosperity. He asserted that the farmers will be benefitted by the supply of high breed seeds. Dr. Singh has informed that about 85 percent farmers come under the category of marginal and small farmers category, they hold less than 2 hectare land.
He said that the Seed Producer and Marketing Federation will be made active in the cooperative sector by entrusting it with responsibility of seed grading and supply.
The Cooperative sector will provide full assistance to the farmers to increase their income by adopting professions like poultry farming, fisheries and food processing.
Moreover, Dr. Singh stressed on need for ground level work for the Union Government programme for doubling the farmers’ income till 2022.
Officers of the Agriculture and Cooperative Department, NABARD, Cooperative Bank Management, Farmers, Agriculture Experts and Agriculture students in large number were present in the workshop.
