In what was seen as an insensitive if not insulting remark to the transgender community, the Madhya Pradesh Education Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah said that students not clapping wholeheartedly could need to do the same door to door in their next life.
The controversial statement was seen as referring to the transgender community.
The Minister was addressing a gathering at a public event in Bhopal on the occasion of Teacher’s Day.
As per a video, Shah was not happy at the less than enthusiastic response of the few members for clapping.
He then made the comment that was seen as controversial to say the least.
Shah said at the event, ‘Agar Guru ke samman mein apne taaliyan nahi bajayi to agle janam mein ghar ghar ja kar taaliyan bajani padengi. (If you don’t clap to honour your teacher, you would have to visit households and clap hands in their next birth).” >
