Known for ensuring relief to those stranded abroad, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today said that the three Indian nationals who had been abducted in Nigeria have been released.
The three abducted hailed from Himachal Pradesh.
“We have secured the release of three Indian nationals Sushil Kumar, Pankaj Kumar and Ajay Kumar – all from Himachal Pradesh who were abducted in Nigeria. I appreciate the efforts of Shri BN Reddy, Indian High Commissioner in Nigeria,” Swaraj said in a tweet.
The three Indian nationals were serving the Merchant Navy.
It is said that they were kidnapped by Nigerian pirates for a ransom of 11 million naira.
It was on March 12 that the family of one of the victims received a satellite call from Nigeria and thus got informed that the pirates had taken the three hostage.>
