An under construction flyover in holy city of Varanasi collapsed today in which at least dozen are feared killed while very many others are trapped.
Sources confirmed that the two pillars of the under construction flyover collapsed in Varanasi’s Cantt area.
This led the slab to come crashing down and the cars and many other vehicles got crushed instantly.
It is said that those trapped might be the labourers of the construction site.
As soon as the news of the mishap spread, the administration rushed in a team of National Disaster Response Force or NDRF has been rushed to the spot.
Police personnel have also been deployed to aid in the rescue efforts as well as to provide security there.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed his deputy Keshav Prasad Maurya and minister Neelkanth Tiwari to visit the spot.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted to say that he has spoken to officials and asked them to ensure all possible support to those affected.
“Extremely saddened by the loss of lives due to the collapse of an under-construction flyover in Varanasi. I pray that the injured recover soon,” he said.
Former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav appealed to the workers of his Samajwadi Party to assist the rescue teams. He also tweeted, “I hope the government will not just wash their hands off by paying compensation, rather will order a fair investigation.”>
