Mulayam alleges communal incidents on rise under Modi govt

Former Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav

Former Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav pointed to rise in incidents of communal violence Modi government over last three years. He said that girls are not safe in even Benaras Hindu University and there appears to be total breakdown of law and order in Uttar Pradesh. He also alleged that incumbent Yogi Adityanath government is also not fulfilling any of its promises.

Violence erupted inside Banaras Hindu University (BHU) campus after students, protesting against an alleged eve-teasing incident. Dozens of students were detained in connection with the violence later. FIRs against 1,000 students has also been filed.

Speaking on his son and former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, Mulayam said, “My blessings always with Akhilesh as a father, but I don’t agree with his decisions,” . Speculations were rife on Singh’s announcement of the new party along with virtually defunct Lok Dal. The hint of an imminent split in the SP came on Sunday when Mulayam and his brother-aide Shivpal Yadav stayed away from a state convention of the party – which they had founded 25 years ago – saying they were not invited.
