In a revelation of sorts that speaks volumes on the naxal influence still prevalent in Chhattisgarh, as many as 35 villagers were allegedly thrashed by naxals.
The thrashing allegedly was for their absence from the meeting called by the red rebels in Chhattisgarh’s restive Dantewada district.
It is said that the Dantewada police too has received reports of such an incident.
Police officials said that they have received reports of people in Phulpad village under Kuakonda police station limits refusing to attend a meeting called by Naxals.
It was later that the naxals gathered around them and tied them to trees.
They began hitting them incessantly, police sources said.
The beatings have left many injured and some of them have been admitted to the Kuakonda community health centre.
He said such a mass beating was a first in the region and was probably due to frustration on the part of the Naxals over recent arrests of their accomplices.>
