Nepal Prime Minister KP Oli, who is slated to visit India, may seek India’s support for reviving the stalled SAARC summit.
It is said that while the issue has not been included as the official agenda, the Nepalese Prime Minister is keen on discussing the possibility of holding the summit later this year in Islamabad.
Indian officials are also known to have confirmed that though countries like Nepal, Sri Lanka and the Maldives expressed support for SAARC summit in Islamabad, there was no formal proposal to host the event any time soon.
It also need be mentioned that the summit cannot be held if India decides to boycott it.
This also comes from Nepal leader as the country is current Chair of SAARC.
It need be recalled that the 19th summit scheduled in 2016 in Islamabad could not take place due to India’s decision to boycott the event.
The decision had to be taken after the terror attack on an army camp in Uri, which left 19 Indian soldiers dead.>
