NITI Aayog CEO had this to say on Indian growth rates

Kant said that while the country is growing at around 7.5 per cent, the aspiration is for growth at high rates like 10 per cent over a three-decade period

Even as country has been celebrating how it is now one of prominent economies of the world, the NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant has stressed on need to improve its human development index (HDI).

This is crucial, he said, to be able to achieve a growth of around 10 per cent.

Kant said that while the country is growing at around 7.5 per cent, the aspiration is for growth at high rates like 10 per cent over a three-decade period.

This, he said, is not possible without improvement in the HDI for India.

Kant said at an event by child-rights organisation Plan India.

He also expressed concern on infant-mortality and maternal-mortality rates being at very high rates.

Stating that there were around 200 backward districts in India, Kant underlined that it was not possible for the government alone to transform.
