After ensuring its dominance in telecom and mobile internet space in India, the Reliance Jio is said to be eyeing to capture DTH and broadband space.
It is said that the other players are concerned and may be looking at the merger model to offset the aggressive plans.
It is learnt that Bharti Airtel, for instance, is in talks with Dish TV to merge the latter under its Airtel Digital TV service.
The talks are crucial as the Airtel holds a market share of 24 per cent in the DTH space while Dish TV rules with a share of 37 per cent.
Should the merger come about, the Airtel could rule the market with a share of 61 per cent.
This will make Airtel Digital TV the only operator in the operator in the world to offer a TV service on such a large scale.
However, there is no official word from Airtel on these developments.
