Onion prices has increased in last one week in the market several parts of the country including Delhi,Chhattisgarh,MadhayPradesh,Mumbai,Lucknow,Patna,Varanasi,Bengaluru and Kolkata.
As Per the data of consumer affairs ministry, retail onion prices have increased in a week and stand at Rs.46 per kg in Kolkata,Rs.32 per kg in Chennai, Rs.56 per kg in Mumbai and Delhi.
The increase in onion prices is due to shortage of onion. Onion prices increased due to supply disruption from onion growing states Maharashtra which has been affected by floods and Rains.
Traders maintain that while there is enough supply of stored onions of the previous year’s crop, transportation is also a problem due to heavy rains.
Currently, stored onions are being sold in most parts of the country and fresh crop will come to the market by November.Onion prices will come down in the next few days with supply being boosted as per Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar.
