Online fraud dupes man of Rs 31000 while trying to claim refund from Zomato

Raipur: Online fraud duped a man of Ashwini Nagar of Rs 31000 by sending him a fake link while the complainant was trying to claim refund from Zomato food delivery app. A complaint in this regard was later lodged in Purani Basti police station.

According to police, complainant Dhirendra Kumar of Ashwini Nagar had ordered some food over online food delivery app Zomato.With the quality of supplied food not being to his satisfaction, Dhirendra returned the delivery and later searched over Google for a website to reclaim his money. In the process, Dhirendra came through a telephone number 62069- 92984.

Calling over that number and seeking refund, the receiver told Dhirendra that he will be sending him a link immediately which needs to be filled and activated and his refund will be provided instantly. Not suspecting at all the genuineness of the telephone number searched over Google, Dhirendra did just as he was asked to do but this turned out to be great mistake and within minutes of activating the send link, Rs 31000 was instantly withdrawn online from his bank account in four separate installments.

Dhirendra immediately called back on the telephone number he had talked minutes before but now it was found to be out of service. He then lodged a complaint in Purani Basti police station with regards to the fraud following which police have registered an offence under Section 420 IPC against the holder of the above mentioned telephone number and is now investigating the matter further.
