Raipur: Unidentified frauds on Friday duped a woman of Rs 53357 on pretext of refunding her the cancelled order. A complaint in this regard was made in DD Nagar police station on Sunday afternoon.
According to police, complainant Upasana Priyadarshini of Sector-4 in DDU Nagar had booked online couple of household goods over the Club Country app. By mistake, she ordered the same goods twice. Coming to know about her mistake, she approached the app for cancelling one of the orders. Minutes after she booked her cancellation request, she received a call from mobile phone number 88091- 18702 and the caller took from her details of her request to cancel the order.
He then asked the complainant to provide him the Debit (ATM) Card details through which she had made the payment. Not suspecting the caller at all, the complainant provided him all the details he had sought. Few minutes later, the same person called through another mobile phone number 86373-99088 and asked her to provide the sent OTP number so that her money is instantly refunded back.
However, providing him the OTP turned out to be major mistake as within a minute the complainant received seven SMSs informing withdrawal of a total of Rs 53357 from her account in seven separate online transactions. DDU Nagar police, in the meantime, has registered an offence under Section 420 IPC against the holders of both the above mentioned mobile phone numbers and further investigation is now underway.
