In Pakistan, lawmakers will elect a new Prime Minister tomorrow to replace ousted leader Nawaz Sharif.
President Mamnoon Hussain has convened a special session of the Parliament to elect new leader of the house.
Nawaz Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has nominated Shahid Khaqan Abbasi as interim Prime Minister.
Abbasi is expected to become interim leader until Sharif’s own brother Shehbaz Sharif, who is the chief minister of the Punjab province, wins a by-election to the national assembly and becomes eligible to be prime minister.
PML-N holds a majority with 188 seats in the 342-member parliament. Nawaz Sharif has resigned from his post, after last Friday’s decision by the Supreme Court to disqualify Sharif for not declaring a source of income.
