Ripply Croonings Follow Nawaz Sentencing, Cakes Ordered From Dubai

Pakistani homemaker flooded with anti-Nawaz cake orders

Sentencing of former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharief and his daughter Mariam Nawaz by courts for 10 and 7 years respectively on corruption charges has come to some as time to celebrate.

Some of them are calibrating this mood with some cakes ordered from abroad. Some of these orders have nade way to a home-based baker in Dubai, Khadija Ammad.

Kjadija, a Pakistani settled in Dubai has baked a cake and decorated it in a monochrome prison dress depicting Nawaz behind the bars and words titled ‘Gone’ just for fun.

“Though I do the baking and icing, this was my husband’s idea,” said Khadij. She never realized it would go viral, though. The 3kg cake was baked on July 6 and was sold for 300 Dirham. “One of my friends bought the cake and we all cut and celebrated the day,” she said.

Khadija, who said that she has no political affiliation, was swayed by her husband’s support towards Imran Khan, the main runner of premiership in the upcoming polls on July 25. “We all want change in the country and that’s why we have somehow started supporting Imran,” she said.

Khadija has set up a Facebook page titled Sugar Cube where she posts pictures of her cakes. After the idea of Nawaz behind bars cake post went viral, Khadija has been getting a number of orders for such cakes.

“Most orders are coming from Pakistan though and right now I cannot complete those orders. But if they are from the UAE, I will surely bake ” said Khadija who is originally from Karachi.

Khadija has been in the UAE for two years and is passionate about baking since her school time. “I come from a family who is passionate about baking – my mother and grandmother are all bakers,” said Khadija. “The rest I have learnt from YouTube,” she added.
