Traffic chaos in the capital city Raipur is getting worse owing to the force crunch. With rapidly growing population in the city, number of vehicles also increased in equal proportion, ironically number of traffic police did not.
Resultantly traffic system management is steadily getting downward spiral in terms of service. According to the (Bureau of Police Research and training) to handle the traffic pressure in capital city Raipur, total 2262 trained cops are required, whereas 20% of traffic cops only ( 490) are handling the traffic systems in the city.
According to the information almost all the big districts of the state are running short of the traffic cops. To get the force augmented, police headquarters had written letters to the Ministry of home affairs, but to no avail. Committee of road safety of Supreme Court had written to the PHq on the basis of data available upto march 2018, in which demand for traffic cops appointment was asserted. Existing force was declared insufficient and strong recommendation for appointment, according to the determined parameter of BPR&D had been made.
To approve the traffic force as per the parameter of BPR&D, instruction to make action plan also given. According to that only 490 cops had been appointed, though only 412 are working including 2 additional superintendent of police, 2 DSPs. Out of which 2 DSP, 13 Inspector, 1 SI, 17 ASI, 45 Havaldars, 320 superintendents, 15 women SI, 3 Drivers and 52 Home guards.
