PM announces Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia; for families of Indians killed in Iraq’s Mosul

She said that while one of the Indian Harjit Masih escaped by posing as a Bangladeshi Muslim, the remaining 39 Indians were taken to Badoosh and killed

AS the central government came in for criticism for late announcement of murder of 39 Indians in Mosul of Iraq, the central government arranged the mortal remains to be brought back on a special plane to India.

But keen to soothe the grieving families, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced ex-gratia payment of Rs 10 lakh each to families of Indians killed in Iraq’s Mosul.

It need be mentioned that the Minister of State for External Affairs V K Singh left for Iraq to bring back the mortal remains of those killed.

The government came under criticism earlier this month after Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj had told Parliament that as many as 40 Indians were abducted by the Islamic State from Mosul in Iraq in June 2014.

She said that while one of the Indian Harjit Masih escaped by posing as a Bangladeshi Muslim, the remaining 39 Indians were taken to Badoosh and killed.
