PM Modi all set to attend swearing-in ceremony of Maldivian President-elect

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Maldivian president-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih next week.

The confirmation was given by the Ministry of External Affairs.

The MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar added that Prime Minister will also visit Singapore to take part in the 13th East Asia Summit and other meetings on November 14 and 15.

It need be mentioned that Maldives’ president-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had invited PM Modi to his swearing-in ceremony.

It so happened that the President-elect had extended the invitation during a phone call by Modi.

The 56-yr-old Maldivian leader is the joint opposition candidate from Mohamed Nasheed’s Maldivian Democratic Party and went on to secure a sensational victory over strongman incumbent President Abdulla Yameen in the election held on September 23.

Maldives is the only South Asian country not visited by PM Modi.

It is also reported that advance teams of the Prime Minister is already in the island nation to prepare for PM’s maiden visit.
