With the opposition candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih emerging as winner of the recent Presidential poll, it is likely that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the oath-taking ceremony of the President-elect in Maldives.
It need be mentioned that despite international apprehensions, the incumbent Yameen government was overwhelmingly ousted in democratic vote.
While the incumbent President Yameen has conceded defeat, things have begun to go India way in the Indian Ocean archipelago into an autocratic nation.
The swearing-in ceremony of the new President will be held in November and a team is already working on the inauguration ceremony.
It has been said in Maldivian circles that Prime Minister Modi would be invited for the ceremony.
The hopes from new President that India has could be ascertained from the fact that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the first world leader to call Solih and congratulate him on his victory.
This comes as Yameen administration was largely hostile attitude towards India and close to China.>
