PM Modi, President Trump will exchange views on range of issues: Sarna

Indian Ambassador to the United States Navtej Sarna has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump will exchange views on a wide variety of subjects during their meeting in Washington on Monday. Speaking to media at Washington, Mr Sarna said, there is a tremendous expectations from both sides for a very fruitful and productive visit.

He said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting US at the invitation of President Trump and for the first time, both the leaders will be meeting face to face. He said, both leaders had very good and constructive telephonic conversations thrice. Sarna said, both countries will go through the entire gamut of subjects which make the relationship rich, varied and strategic.

The Ambassador said, Trade, Commerce and Investment are important parts of the relationship. He said, Indo-US trade has been growing and at present it is at 115 billion dollars. Mr Sarna said, there is tremendous potential for it to grow from both sides. He said, investments also has similar potential to grow both in India and United States.

Replying to a query on Defence collaboration between both countries, Sarna said, India is a major Defence partner of the United States and both countries have a robust defence and security relationship.

He said, there is an extensive array of exercise between armed forces of both countries. The Ambassador said, India is also using the defence platforms of the United States. He said, Defence and Security will be an important part of the discussion.

Speaking on the Indian-American community, Mr Sarna said, the community is an important part of Indo-US relationship. He said, the three million strong community has done extremely well as professionals, entrepreneurs. He said, they have made an important place for them in the United States.

The Ambassador said, the community is an important link between India and the US. He informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet some members of the community at a community reception programme tomorrow.
