Police arrests brother of MLA Sengar; after pressure mounts in Unnao gang rape case

The storm in Uttar Pradesh politics has only intensified after the father of the alleged gang-rape victim died in judicial custody.

The Unnaon gang-rape as it is now known has got media attention after which the Uttar Pradesh crime branch arrested Atul Singh Sengar, the brother of BJP Bangarmau MLA Kuldeep Sengar.

The arrest came about for allegedly beating the victim’s father.

However, the victim herself, a 17-year-old, had alleged she was raped by the BJP MLA.

It is said that with public pressure mounting, even four supporters of the MLA, who have been identified as Vineet, Bauwa, Shailu and Sonu were also arrested.

Meanwhile since the video clip of the victim’s father had gone viral, this led to suspension of Station House Officer and five policemen of Makhi police station.

The issue became the highlight as the victim had tried to immolate herself outside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s residence on Sunday.

She had alleged at the time of police inaction against the BJP MLA.

It is interesting that no FIR has been lodged against MLA Kuldeep Sengar yet.
